Nicutools is built so a clinician can use it at the bedside without sending anyone’s data anywhere. This page describes exactly what does and does not happen when you use the website or the iOS app.
The short version
- No patient data is collected or transmitted. Every calculator runs entirely on your device. Inputs and results are never sent to a server.
- No accounts, no sign-in, no tracking across calculators.
- The website uses Google Tag Manager for page-view analytics only. The form values you type, the results that are displayed, the buttons you tap inside a calculator — none of that is captured.
- The iOS app contains no analytics at all.
What we store on your device
Both the website and the iOS app remember a small amount of state so the experience persists between visits. This data stays on your device.
- Theme preference — dark / light / system.
- Unit preferences — kPa or mmHg for pressure; metres or feet for altitude.
- Recent calculators — the last few calculators you opened, so they appear in a Recent row on the home screen.
- Favourite calculators — the calculators you marked with the star icon.
- Disclaimer acknowledgement (iOS app only) — a flag noting that you have read and accepted the healthcare professional disclaimer.
On the website this is stored in your browser’s localStorage. On the iOS app it is stored in the app’s sandboxed local storage. Clearing your browser data or uninstalling the app removes it.
What we never store
- Names, dates of birth, or any other identifying details.
- Calculator inputs (weights, gestational ages, lab values, ventilator settings, anything you type into a form).
- Calculator results.
- Photos, files, contacts, or any data outside the app.
Website analytics
The website loads Google Tag Manager (container GTM-NG8NTM9) to record aggregated usage information:
- Which pages are viewed and the order they are visited in.
- Standard browser and device information (browser version, OS, screen size, approximate region).
- Referring URL when you arrive from a link.
This information is used to understand which calculators are popular and to improve the site. It is not linked to a personal identity and it is never combined with calculator inputs or results, because those values never leave your browser. Google’s handling of this data is governed by their own privacy policy.
The iOS app contains no analytics SDK and makes no analytics calls.
Network calls
The website makes the following network calls on a typical visit:
- Loading the page itself from
nicutools.org. - Google Tag Manager and the resulting Google Analytics calls (described above).
The iOS app makes the following network calls:
- None during a calculation. All calculators are pure local functions.
- If you tap the “Monitor Simulator” tile on the home screen, the in-app browser loads
nicuvitals.nicutools.org— a separate teaching tool. Its privacy posture is described on that site. - Standard App Store mechanisms (Apple handles purchase, receipt validation, and update delivery; we do not see your Apple ID or payment information).
Children and adolescents
Nicutools is for use by qualified healthcare professionals. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone — including children. Because we collect nothing, the usual concerns about children’s personal data do not arise.
Changes to this policy
If anything material changes (for example, if analytics behaviour ever changes, or a future feature does transmit data of any kind), this page will be updated and the date at the top will move forward. We will not retroactively change what was collected from an earlier visit; we will only describe new behaviour going forward.
